Got a good one for you. Last January I dumped a GP since the roach
was just to slow in giving me 4 scripts so I could get meds much
cheaper from Express Scripts. At the office of the new GP, I showed
the GP the four bottles of meds I use. One of which is Lisinopril. I
showed him my BG graphs, BP graphs, and copies of all previous tests.
My BP is mostly about 114/70/75 or around in that area. He inquired
why I was on Lisinopril with excellent BP. I replied it was for
kidney protection. I've been on it since shortly after DX about four
years ago. I doubt he knew that an ACE/ARB gave a diabetic one extra
level of protection for the kidneys. Moral of story - GP's do not
know everything.
Do you test your BP at home? If so, what machine do you use? I am thinking
about getting one but I don't know if it is necessary, or if there is an
accurate machine on the market that is inexpensive.
Thanks, Sax
It's a little more work and takes getting used to, but the
stethoscope/cuff is the gold standard. You can buy the
stethoscope/cuff for @$20 at Walgreens. The only downfall, is that you
would need someone to give a brief lesson in how to use it, although
it's quite simple.
I bought a new digital BP monitor (can't remember the brand) and we
were amazed for weeks about how much a particular family member's BP
had improved, and we couldn't figure out why. Finally became
suspicious when the darn thing never gave a high reading. Bought the
stethoscope/cuff and found out the digital one had led us down the
proverbial garden path. I'm sure many of them are quite accurate, but
after this experience I don't trust them because there is no way to
verify they are giving accurate readings.
My 2 cents.
