Are you treated for the cholesterol? Mine is 181 (overall) with HDL at 41 so my guess is that your LDL is high at, or around 150-180. My doc is all over me about my numbers because it leaves my LDL at 120's.Sax,
I am not treated for the cholesterol. At one time I let the doctor put me on Zetia and I dropped my cholesterol to a level she was happy with, only problem was I suddenly stopped producing any estrogen (according to the gynecologist)and I started seeing persistent afterimages which was a sign of cholesterol deficiency according to the ophthalmologist. Stopping the Zetia normalized both.
Because my LDL molecule is huge it gives a misleadingly high cholesterol number when, in fact, it is just fine.
When my father allowed a young doctor to medicate him for his very high cholesterol (in the 300s), after he'd outlived his second long-term doctor, he immediately developed severe cognitive impairment. Until then he'd been sharp enough to work at an intellectually demanding profession though he was in his 90s. I won't touch statins for that reason. My brain is about all that still works properly. <sigh>
