Diabetes Charities/Donations

In a copy of "Diabetes Health" (June 2006), page 42 has an article on
diabetes charities. It lists the following CEO/director salaries for a
few popular ones (in USD):
American Diabetes Association: $433,544
Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, Inc.: $340,388
Joslin Diabetes Center: $463,156
JDRF: $582,098
Whittier Institute for Diabetes Research: $248,576
Frustrated me when someone from the ADA called me a few months ago,
trying several interesting tactics (much like a bully) in asking me for
money. It's easy to donate to a diabetes charity, but when thinking
about the salaries of the people running them, it makes me jealous that
they make THAT much... and THEY don't necessarily live with the 6+
shots a day and 10+ tests per day that causes more money to be sucked
away.
I've even seen some financials for some websites (like insulin
pumpers/children with diabetes) which shows they make pretty good money
for running a website (more than I make per year, at least). When one
person suffers, another always profits.
Any comments or thoughts on if these salaries are justified?
Do we really have to "bribe" talanted people with high salaries so that
they lead "our" diabetes charity organizations?
