Re: Newbie with questions...

Those numbers are normal that you are seeing, but, like me, you're
probably feeling the drops.

What you should probably do is test yourself first thing in the AM
before eating anything, then at 1/2, 1, and 2 hours after a carby meal
to see what it's doing.
AM fasting should be under 100. Keep in mind that the meters aren't
super-accurate either, so there's a 15-20% slush factor in both
directions off the meter number as compared to venous blood.

Also check to see if your meter is plasma calibrated or measures in
whole blood. I can't remember which way it is, but I think the whole
blood needs to be converted to the plasma value before being compared
to the venous blood guidelines.

I too am generally at ok numbers at 2 hours after a meal (or was, pre
diet change, but that's a whole 'nother issue). But I was spiking
(140-170) at 1/2 to 1 hour. The more carbs and less fat the earlier
the spike would be.
I originally tested at 1/2 hour in addition to 1 and 2 hours because if
I didn't I would miss the highest point of the spike.

I could tell when it was going up as I felt hot, dizzy, and weird, and
could tell when it came down as I would feel really shaky.

An 88 isn't a low blood sugar number and shouldn't cause the shakes
unless it was after a fast drop from a higher number. I had a 15 minute
115->87 drop from cranberry juice early on in my problem and shook
pretty good from that.

And don't let anyone tell you it's impossible to feel a 30 pt drop. If
you feel it, you feel it. It's also possible that you could've been
higher earlier and you caught that 115 on the way back down and it
wasn't the peak.

I strongly recommend ditching the simple carbs and not eating any carbs
by themselves. Eat them with protein and fat and spread them out over
multiple small meals.

LQ, diagnosed as reactive hypoglycemic, still having weird issues and
deaf doctors.
