Re: We can change behavior

I just found this exchange on the thyroid. I'm having an interesting
episode with mine. My doctor has always kept me at the very low end of
the euthyroid level - once I was slightly lower than that level but she
let me stay there because I felt fine and had no heart-racing. I've
been taking between 150 or 175 mg of levothyroxine for years; sometimes
one dose, sometimes another. I'd been at 175 since last May. In
January I started to feel twitchy, and noticed my heart seemed faster,
especially at night. I called for a TSH test; my doctor was on family
leave, still is, so I got a random doc in the clinc. My TSH was at a
hyper level, as I thought. The new doc called in 150 level to my
pharmacy, and I thought I was done. At my 6-week TSH test it was still
hyper. To shorten this account I've gone from 150 to 125 to112. I'm
due for my 6-week test for the 112 in early June. I have never been at
such a low dose since I was diagnosed back in 1993. I made an appt.
to see the temp doc about it; she thinks my thyroid level is improved
because I've lost 45 pounds in the last year. I had no idea this could
be a factor in a hypothyroid problem.

Nicky, you are lucky to get a T3 T4 test at all. My regular doctor has
been very good for me for many things; she noted the thyroid problem in
my first appt with her, when my previous doc had ignored obvious
symptoms for years. Yet she won't test anything but the TSH because I
respond so well to the standard levothyroxine medication. I'd like to
know a little more about what is going on, and especially now that the
TSH levels are improving so much.
