My gut would say that your obesity, and its
response to your low carbing
(hunger lessening, weight loss) suggests
insulin resistance.

That's what I was thinking - with the weight gain, the way I felt after
eating carbs, the response to low carb, etc how could I not be IR?
It would've been interesting to see what that number was 3 months and
45 lbs (!) ago.
At least if that number is right I've done a good job decreasing the IR
I probably have/had.

And I wish I had discovered low carb sooner - dang, does it work!

Did you carry most of your excess weight in >your upper body?

Not really - it was pretty evenly distributed all over. Only in the
last 2 years or so did I start getting extra "paunch" below the navel.
The waning female hormones may have had something to do with that.
As it's come off it's come off pretty evenly as well.
