Just curious, Lynn. What is your diet like?
Until 2 weeks ago, I ate whatever I wanted for meals - generally healthy for
someone without diabeties (no fried foods, lean meat, plenty of fresh
veggies) - but with no regard to carbs. Pasta, an occasional pizza, brown
rice, whole grain bread, more sweet potatoes than white potatoes. My
biggest downfall was eating my 1 yr old's snacks between meals (graham
crackers, nilla wafers, teddy grahams) and a right-before-bed serving of
dessert (brownies, haagen-dazs, some homemade cookie or other). Oh yeah,
and caffine. A cup of coffee with creamer in the morning and one or two
diet cokes in the afternoon.
Now... I usually have an omlete for breakfast ASAP to stop the dawn
phenomenon. No milk, OJ, or anything else with carbs as I am pretty
sensitive in the mornings. Lunch is a lean meat, maybe a starchy vegetable
and a large spinach salad with raw carrots, cheese, olives. I usually have
a protien drink with mik and an apple or half of a banana sometime in the
afternoon. Supper is the same as lunch but with a non-starchy vegetable
instead of the salad. I've found that a handful of nuts at bedtime helps me
keep my fasting blood sugar below 100 or so. I do ok with the whole wheat
bread at lunch or for an early supper. Same with a half of a white potato.
Haven't tried the brown rice yet. No more caffine.
Lynn
