I just picked up some generic Prilosec for a friend while I was at the
dentist in Mexico this morning. It's 5 cents a pill there.

A few years ago "60 Minutes" did a story about how the drug companies
change one atom in the formula and are able to get a new patent when the
money-making drug's patent runs out. There are some inconveniences when
one lives in a capitalistic economy. OTOH, money is also an incentive to
develop new drugs. Wouldn't it be lovely if the same economic factors
led to the discovery of a drug that could cure IR and regenerate beta
cells?

Really difficult problems are best solved by those who simply love
their work and want to solve the problem because they're
enthusiasts. Mercenaries never have their heart in their work, and
where the work is difficult or dangerous, the difference shows.
