The biggest problem with getting medical advice and information from
someone in a newsgroup is that you never really know the person giving
the information. Also, if someone reads a study online they may not be
aware of other contradictary studies, the validity of the study itself,
or the organization's agenda behind the study. The Internet can be a
useful tool, but when it comes to medical advice it's a high wire
tightrope that very few lay people should try to walk upon without a
net. (The net, of course, being a professional doctor.)
