Alan and who ever else is interested,
This is what I have had today. I will probably have to have a snack
before I got to bed and a zero coke. Not good but much better, I had
too much milk at lunch though, but I could have drunk more.

Now, let me tell you all a little more about myself. Since I got the
nerve to start a new thread :) .
First, I am 51 years old and I had such a bad year of being 50 that
when I turned 51 I decided I had best get this stuff under control.
That was on March 30th, and I did over do it that day.
Now my 50th year started off with my mother in the hospital and dying
less than a month later, big blow to my life although I knew it was
coming. Things sailed along pretty good from that point until around
August when I started having chest pain and when I causally told the
doctor about it, he immediately did an EKG which showed I had at
sometime had a heart attack. He then sent me to a cardiologist and I
had a heart cath which was pretty much negative. But they have
continued me on Imdur for the chest pain and shortness of breath.
Things then sailed right along until Dec. 10, and on that evening I
fell down our basement steps, all 14 of them backwards. I did not
appear to be hurt, other than a leg that didn't want to work right but
I knew it was not broken so I didn't go to the ER, waited until Monday
and went to my regular doctor. They were not sure if my ankle was
broken or if it was an old break, turns out we still don't know but
think it was an old break. I did have a huge hematoma on my leg and
it looked like I had two knee caps, only the one that wasn't suppose
to be there was bigger than the real one, and I still have a knot
there, today. Make a long story short, I went through tests for blood
clots, etc. If I do not keep my leg elevated my foot swells so much I
can't get even a house shoe on. The doctor has an explanation for
this but it doesn't mean I understand it. At first he said the
hematoma was partially cutting off the circulation to my foot. Now he
says it is due to the injury and will eventually go away. I have had
a second opinion also. So needless to say exercise is almost
non-existent at this time, but I have never been good at it, either.
This year, still while I was 50, I have had two eye surgeries for
glaucoma and just recently we found three cysts in my breast, they
were not fibro cysts and are something that has to be watched but they
are not cancerous. And that my friends is how I spent my 50th year of
my life and so I have decided I have to make some major changes.
I am a medical technologist, but have not worked since 1987 because of
fibromyalgia, I also have hypothyroidism, which seems to go hand in
hand with diabetes. I have always had a tendency for depression, but
it got worse with my mother's death so we are now treating that, also.
I have high blood pressure, which is the only thing in my life
controlled, I am over weight, and I have OSA and RSL, which are both
being treated.
I have two older sisters, and one nephew that is just the cats meow.
He is the apple of all our eyes. One sister is divorced and has the
heart problem, the other sister was widowed when she was 45 years old
and is retired military, and now works just for something to do, must
be nice. You all already know about my dad, he is a swell person and
looks about 60 although he is going to be 84, but as I have told you
his memory is lacking. That is all there is to know about me I guess.

Hi again Jac
In reading through all that I don't see the depression, I
see the courage. You'll make it.
The good news is that you have time to learn how to master
this thing. I think you are going to be surprised how much
your other problems may improve as you get the BGs under
control - and how many of them may have been related to the
diabetes in the first place.
There are others here who can give good advice on exercise
for those who have difficulty walking. You might also want
to think about hydrotherapy.
Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.
