Nicky, what were your mother's thyroid complications? I was *fortunate?* to have my discovery made due to multiple cold nodules which were treated with Synthroid to "put my thyroid to sleep" so the nodules could not feed off the hormone. Later, I had thyroiditis which virtually burned up my thyroid, plunging me into hypothyroidism. It is a real juggling act keeping my thyroid levels normal now. We have to manage it with micro changes in the thyroxin. Right now, I am taking 175 per day, down from 200 a few months ago. I AM fortunate, though that a full thyroid panel has always been done on me, except for a follow-up on drug level changes when a TSH is done to see if we are headed in the right direction. We think I probably got ahold of some bad Synthroid when I had a TSH of 36 a few months ago. My doctor called here on a Sunday afternoon to talk to me about it, and to let me know he was sending a new rx the next day. I had a hard time convincing him I was not incompliant, and really had been taking my med.

Billie, has your doctor ever discussed Thyrolar or combination of T4/T3 supplementation with you? Any study to examine the question has found that patients feel mentally and physically better on the combination, rather than just a high dose of the inactive hormone, T4.
