Hello again, dear friendsGlad you got SOME good news, Will!
Today I had another visit with the super-dooper retina specialist, and
all the test results were really good, except one of the autoimmune
tests, and that was borderline, so he is not too worried about that
one, for the present. So, whatever it was that caused the occlusion of
the retinal artery is no longer there, and there are no processes at
work that would constitute a further threat to my vision, other than
the diabetes, itself. The only bad news is that the damage to the
right retina in the macula is permanent and there is no treatment that
will fix it. But, I already knew that part of the situation, so there
was really no more bad news.
My thanks to all for your concern and support throughout this ordeal.
I go back for another retina check in a couple of months.
I hope eveyone will take a cue from my experience and have their eyes
checked at the first hint of trouble. One thing the doctor did advise
was, in the event things go dark all of a sudden, to massage my eye
using a technique he taught me and then go to the ER immediately, so
that I might not lose the rest of my vision. Also, you should all bear
in mind that with the type of retiina causalty I suffered, a person
has only 90 minutes, or thereabouts, to get the blood supply restored
to the retina, or permanent damage, or blindness, will follow.
Will, T2
