Also mainly misinformation

Some idiot pharmacists plaster a "no alchohol" on Metformin.

There is no reason why moderate alcoholl can not be used with with
Metformin, or most meds. If his DOCTOR says no alcohol, not if a clerk
at Wal marts says it.

Actually, Ted, it has been my experience that many doctors are less
informed about medications than pharmacists (notice I say *pharmacist*
not clerk). Doctors get their drug proscribing info from the salesmen
who come into the office, tell all the "great" things about a given
medication, give free samples, and are out the door in five minutes. I
would encourage any patient to read the product info for themselves--as
I initially recommended. However, for some people deciphering it can
be difficult. Nevertheless, I agree with you--it appears that it's
easier for both doctors and pharmacists to recommend "no alcohol"
rather than to try and define *moderate* intake.

Where do you think pharmacists get their information on NEW drugs?
