G'day G'day Sarah,
Thank you for posting this link. There is much we can learn from it.
Let's say for the moment that some of it is factual.
Where does the fact finish and the fiction begin?
At a rough guess it may well be a fact that T1 diabetics burn use a
high fat to carbohydrate fuel for their hearts. I don't have a problem
with that.
It may well be that free radicals and inflammation play an important
part in raising the risk of heart attacks. Now that sounds
reasonable.
One might have expected that the researchers would conclude, that T1
diabetics need to think carefully about WHICH fats they have in their
diet. I could be that it is much more important for them choose fats
that are not precursors for inflammatory processes than it is for
non-diabetics. It could be that it is more important for them to
choose a diet rich in anti-inflammatory substances.
Weirdly, perhaps, the researchers conclude T1s need to reduce fats
which they can utilised and have more carbs which they can't, all
apparently on the assumption that fat causes arteriosclerosis.
IMHO, it is in their conclusions that they hop skip and jump away from
what can be substantiated to what it mere conjecture.
Best wishes and thank you,
