| I'm sure I got a lot of sun as a young child and we didn't have sunscreen
in
| those days. We moved to WA when I was 7. Here we don't get a lot of sun.
| I did try to sunbathe in the summer, but after receiving a nasty sunburn
at
| home and once again on vacation in KS, I've tried to avoid the sun. I did
| get one more nasty blistering burn as an adult when we were on vacation in
| CA. My husband insisted on spending several hours at the beach. I told
him
| I couldn't do this because I burn so easily. I was wearing sunscreen, but
| it didn't help. He's Italian and has naturally dark skin. Takes a lot
for
| him to burn!
|
| Now I do go out on occasion to do yard work, gardening and such, but I try
| not to stay out long enough to burn. I try to stay in the shade, wear a
| hat, long sleeves, etc. I am bad with sunscreen though. Don't usually
like
| to use it because it seems to cause problems with my skin. I used to buy
| one brand that came in a "sport" variety. Had no problems with that but
it
| seems they no longer make it.
|
| I also used Retin-A for a while in high school for acne. They use it now
| for wrinkles because it causes the skin to peel. So that might have been
a
| help.

I never had acne, so never had a use for Retin-A, but glad it was available
for those who needed it. My cousin had bad acne, back in the 50's -- she
underwent several chemical facial peals to remove the top 3 layers to lessen
the scars. She still has several of them, but overall improvement.
I rarely ever used suntan lotion myself. I'm almost pure German and have
that olive skin, and tan easy.. Danni tans much faster then me. LOL matter
fact, I'd use baby oil to darken my tan.. Being from So.Cal, growing up
near the beach.. mid 70's to mid 80's it just was the thing to do.. My
brother
was a long haired blonde, blue eyed surfer dude.
When I was about 22 I got a bad case of sun poison, and after that, I could
hardly stand to be out in the sun for very long. It hits 100F and I'm
wanting to
rush to the bathroom, and I get a splitting headache. I've had several
sunburns
over the years growing up.. the worse was when we were out surfing at 6am
and it was really overcast. Bad move.. That's when I learned my mom was
right,
just because the sun isn't out at the beach doesn't mean I don't need to
wear my
wetsuit so I don't get burned.
The sun doesn't bother Mike or Danni... I'm just the old foogy in the
family.. lol
