In the meantime, it underscores the need for everyone to be responsible and
circumspect about what they post. I would not recommend that anyone put
anything out there that he or she would not want their families, including
children and grandchildren, friends, and neighbors to read now, ten years
from now. That also would now seem to apply to searches that people perform
for information on any subject in the privacy of their own homes.
By all means, never reveal your identity nor your opinions
nor your existence on Usenet or any other electronic media!
Seriously, there are things online with my name on them that
could cause someone who knew how to look for them to decide
not to hire me for a job and/or contract. OTOH, some of them
might actually have the opposite effect on a different person.
And finally, some of them I didn't even write in the first place.
Trying to hide is pointless. Many of us remember that several
in ASD apparently angered a troll enough that he/she
impersonated them online.
I and another person received messages warning us about the
pornography we had allegedly posted on news.admin What did
the two of us have in common? We had both posted about that
time what we felt were helpful suggestions about the format
of some source code some person had posted.
The only safe posting is NO posting.
