My CDE gave me a rubber band out of her desk drawer. She cut it with
scissors. I wrap it around my finger in between the hand and the first
joint of the finger. I can hold it in place with the thumb of the same
hand. If I test using my thumb, my first finger will hold it in place.
I hold my hand down as low as it will go and hold it for a few seconds.
After I stick it, if there isn't enough blood, I squeeze the finger
between the thumb and first finger of the other hand, carefully avoiding
touching the drop.
Rubber bands are cheap. Our newspapers come with a band just the right
size around them.
