Then there are the well meaning, but clueless family & friends.
Shortly after my dx a few years ago Thanksgiving dinner was set for my
in-laws. As dinner was in its final preparations my dear
sister-in-law (yes, she is a dear with a heart as big as she is)
announced to all gathered that in "honor" of my diabetes dx there
would be no desert served. I wanted the floor to swallow me up, but
then I wouldn't have been able to carry the plate she'd handed me -
piled high with mashed potatos, gravy and a roll or three, along with
the usual turkey, etc.
