No.
I lost nearly 50 pounds, continue to be active & watch what I eat, do
frequent bg tests, etc. It all helps in *control*.
But I still have diabetes.

When I was 44 At type-2 Dx 5 years ago, I dropped 70 lbs from a light
5'8" frame using diet and MUCH exercise. Then I went off all meds.
Rarely over 110 BG for a couple years.

But I got lazy, ate a bit too much, and put on 20-30 lbs over the next
three years. My BG began going out of control. So back on metformin
1500mg a day. For a couple years, I fought to keep only ten lbs off.
In June, I began a serious weight reduction effort again, and since
then I lost most of the remaining 20 lbs of fat.

But about three weeks ago, I felt like I had the flu... very tired and
a bit achy all over. So I had new lab tests. In routine tests for
April, my blood insulin level from the lab report was 20 where normal
is 8-26. This September's insulin number following the "flu" was
3.5. Oi!

It appears my type-2 has been advancing, despite my best efforts. I
have an appointment with an endocrinologist next week, I'm sure
insulin is next.

In my experience: You never "cure" diabetes, but you can control it.
And you MUST always test. Type-2 can change over time.

Just a thought: I switched from 10mg Lipitor/day to 10mg Zocor/day the
evening before I caught the "flu."

Only a coincidence?

I would venture to say that your 3 yrs of an excess of 20-30lbs of weight taxed your pancreas beyond repair. If you had kept the weight off, you may well still be in the non-med requiring stage.

It's so important to KEEP the weight off, as well as exercising and eating correctly. If you gain weight back, you're just starting all over again.
