The phrase "unrealistically low" is what causes you to mistake the true
situation. The American system gives a more realistic relationship between
cost and price. Our cost is essentially the same as yours, as you know. It
is the punitive price caused by taxes you wish on others, hoping to achieve
social reform by government control. Thank you, I would rather honestly pay
for my health care than have it supplied for me by a "From each according to
their ability, to each according to their needs" system.

The cost of oil is driven by supply, demand and speculation. Recent
changes in the world market was not noticably influenced by another
soccer-mom driving her SUV, but rather by investors hoping to make a profit
on their guess that demand will continue to rise while supply is
'unrealistically' restrained.

Hopefully this rise in cost will inspire private investment in alternate
fuels, but blaming the victim is not a solution.
