plenty of definitions are out there on the web based on what these
chemicals do.
search 'statin definition':
statin = HMG reductase inhibitor
(the rate limiting enzyme in cho production)

some definitions out there are so broad that they include almost
all ways of dropping cho, I don't think those are useful definitions.

pantethine inhibits the same enzyme as the pharma statins, it
does the same thing.

pantethine is pretty mild.
I don't know of any side effects reports.

The key to side effects is whether is can inhibit that enzyme
completely enough to cause a problem (like low CoQ10) or
mess with all the isoprenoid chemistry or whatever else causes
the bad effects. That's not well understood.

I mainly didn't want the OP to start pantethine on top of her
crestor after pantethine was mentioned to her, and I'd suggest
the same caution to you or anyone who is on a pharma statin.
(I think that the other Susan agrees and didn't intend the OP
to take that as a suggestion.)

There may be something which would limit the additive effects of
taking pantethine with another statin, but I wouldn't gamble my
health on that without lots of data on what's going on (or if
my LDL were sky high).
