Greetings,
As some may remember, I was diagnosed as Type 2 in 2004. Some months later, after coming out of denial, I requested a referral to a specialist clinic but, before I would be accepted, I had to have another OGTT. The second test came back as non-diabetic so I could not be accepted. After I discovered this group I had my GP give me a prescription for a BG meter and I started following Jennifer's test, test, test program. That provided some real eye openers for me and, judging by my test results, if I'm not diabetic, I'm as close as dammit is to swearing. I had 2hr and even a few 3hr PP readings of 10.5 to 11.0 mmol/l for some starchy foods.
Saw the doc yesterday and got the results of my latest blood work. Some good news, some not so good, compared to my last results in April. Overall she was happy but, told me to continue with the weight loss and increase the exercise.
FBG 5.2 mmol/l A1C 5.4 mmol/l down from 5.7>
Ross,
Several random readings of 11.1mmol/L and over make you officially diabetic according to the full text of the ADA diagnostic criteria, but very few doctors have ever read the criteria in full and most of them only know the GTT and FBG test criteria.
No matter. You are doing exactly what you would have to do diagnosed or not to improve the situation and not having the diagnosis is a plus if you ever need to buy insurance of any sort.
Good work in getting the A1c down!
