Actually - I'll look forward to that too. He is much better
read in that area than me. My own lay opinion is that the
doc had some choices:

1. To aggressively use medication or insulin to reduce your
BGs to less dangerous levels and then review to see whether
the treatment levels could be reduced when you were at lower
levels, and in the meantime direct you to appropriate diet
and management education.

2. If he chose to select diet and exercise only (as he has)
then at least direct or refer you to official training and
dietary advice. Many of us here have problems with the
quality of that advice, but that doesn't mean that it has no
value. I learnt a lot on the dietician's course. The good
news is that you may have had at least some of that
education here.

3. At those levels, further referrals would have seemed
appropriate IMO to specialists to check whether any damage
has occurred yet and to set a baseline for further treatment
if necessary. For your feet - a podiatrist, for your eyes -
an ophthalmologist, for your heart - a stress ECG. Those are
the basic ones.

I'll repeat here - I'm not a doc and that's just my opinion.
But I'd certainly ask the doc (or your new doc) for his
opinion on those courses and specialists.

On targets, start with the ones in Jennifer's advice:
http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm
"for those in the mmol parts of the world:
Fasting....................Under 6
One hour after meals.......Under 8
Two hours after meals....Under 6.5"
