Dear Happy,
The way I understand it, they aren't concerned about minors doing Nyquil
shots in the basement and getting bombed. Just like with anything to do with
drugs, they are only concerned with big time abusers buying pseudoephedrine
by the case and cooking it to make methamphetamine. That's why certain drugs
are now BTC (behind the counter) but still OTC.
Nyquil has never (afaik, and have used it for many years) Nyquil has never
had any Sudafed-type of drug in it.. The previous antihistamine, if I
remember right was Diphenhydramine/Benadryl Benadryl has been used for lots
of things including as a sleep aid, so it's not much of a surprise it would
find it's way in to a nighttime medication..
It's not much of a surprise that kids would find it a recreational goofball
(that was the term in my day). So signing for it and asking for id (if my
alcohol bottles are right 10% makes it 20 proof, in the same class as "heavy
wines" like MadDog 20/20, Nightrain, Thunderbird and the others that no
knowledgeable wine drinker would go near. Grain alcohol and grape juice in
other words)
But as far as Nyquil as a medication goes, as they advertise, it's a
"night-time sniffly cold and flu so you can sleep medicine.Something to that
effect.
Actually, I think it used to have Sudafed (or similar). When the
rules changed to having to sign for any Sudafed product, Nyquil
changed their product (and the ad). Instead of being the Nighttime
aching, stuffy head, fever so you can rest medicine, it became the
aching, fever, best sleep you ever got with a cold medicine (yeah, I
*do* watch too much tv at times).- Hide quoted text -

Aloha All!
Just wanted to mention that I've always been surprised at the amount
of alcohol in Nyquil. My Mother gave me that once for the first time
when I was around 15/16 (10th grade) and I actually remember the
"buzz" I got from it and wondering what the hell it was she just gave
me! Ha! Back then, I didn't care what was in it as long as it worked.
However, I never wanted anything to work good enough so I had to go to
school, if it were a "school day". <evil grin>
As far as Sudafed and all that crystal meth crap...even before crystal
meth existed...I learned rather quickly that whatever was in that
stuff didn't agree with me because it actually made me feel just plain
"weird". No other way to describe it. And it was an uncomfortable
"weird". So much so that if I were at work and had to take some
(unfortunately, there weren't too many things that really worked for
me when my sinuses were REALLY plugged and the pressure was killing
me...you know that kind of feeling?), I couldn't wait to get home so I
could just go to bed and sleep it off. That's how uncomfortable it
made me feel! I'd be feeling "uncomfortably weird but at least my
sinuses wouldn't be hurting". Strange, eh?
My 3 cents.
Everyone stay as low on that pain scale as you possibly can. I know we
all try to, so don't ask me why I always say that...lol...like anyone
would forget? Sheesh! <blushing>
Aloha Just For Now,
Hawaiian Wayne
