Unfortunately, I do not have long distance, or I'd offer. I have
limited local service only. I use phonecards I pick up when CVS has
a BOGO Free sale, and get the $10 ones. I use them for my doctors
and medical, because most are across the Mason-Dixon in PA, though
I live in MD. I asume cshenk has an unlimited long distance plan.
Obviously, doing this by written instructions is not getting
anywhere.

Anyone know in general where Lynn lives? I have geeky friends all
over the place (if she's not close enough for me to drive up).

I have 7 hours a month free LD (USA) dialing. I almost never use
any of it. It won't cost me a penny to dial her.

Somewhere in way upper NY state, IIR. Haven't seen her post back if
she's seeing any of the recent posts, such as Zomby's offer to fix
her Dell tower. If she boxes it up and ships to him; he'll do it
free, including hardware if necessary, from spare parts he has lying
around, and he'll ship it back at his own cost as well. Last time
she posted, she said she couldn't get Win XP to boot at all, she had
managed was to boot up with Safe Mode, so I wonder if she can no
longer boot it at all. She did post to say that fellow poster Teresa
has her phone number, but I haven't seen Teresa post for a while,
and don't know her email. I was hoping Lynn would email you before
her Dell finally was FUBAR'd to the point of not working. Might have
to Google Teresa, and see if she has a working email in her last
posts.

I'm hoping that my normal cynical, jaded & disillusioned self isn't
correct again; but it appears that every time anyone proposes an
extremely viable answer to one of her questions and/or complaints we
usually end up with a litany of excuses as to why she can't follow the
advice, or she stops posting for a while.

Yes, that does seem to be the usual cycle of behavior; yet we all still keep
giving her the benefit of the doubt. It's hard to separate what's real and
not real, from all her stories. I do think a lot of it is the depression,
though. It can get you into a really bad funk where you really don't think
straight, which is why she _really_ needs to find a temporary foster home
for the Moe and Rudy with a rescue or foster group who shelters and/or
re-homes cats, so she can do as her doctor suggests, and go into the
hospital. She is only going to get worse, and I said to her that she needs
to plan now, because if she ends up committed for up to a 72 hour hold, then
animal control will end up with her cats, as the landlord/manager will have
them taken. No telling how long animal control will keep them either.

It's sad she doesn't have a family member, friend or neighbor that she could
entrust the care of her cats too, so she can get the treatment she needs via
hospitalization. She did post that she was going to check with the cats
veterinarian, if all else failed; as I suggested them as a source for a list
of reputable rescue groups and pet fostering groups operating in her general
area. She needs to get her mental health in order, having that untreated is
probably contributing to her increased pain issues as well.

She did make a couple of posts after I made my offer, but perhaps her
machine finally did give up the ghost prior to reading my offer. I
really have no idea, but at least I tried.

I asked her in one of those more recent posts, if she saw yours and cshenks
offers of help. I did see she responded, and has made Pings/replies. I think
she is going to try phone tech support from cshenk first, as she can't
scrape up the money to ship the tower. If that fails to work out, if she has
a PayPal account, perhaps if a few of us could contribute to it, enough to
cover shipping, which probably shouldn't exceed $20. I do happen to have a
few dollars left in my PayPal, that I'd send. But as I said elsewhere, I am
having trouble trying to come up with the $250 for environmental inspection
with the dampness/mold and plumbing failures in my building. The few bucks
in PayPal aren't going to matter.

And Rural Development is trying to see if they have the authority to compel
my manager/landlord pay for an environmental inspection which would relieve
me of the cost. The director is supposed to have sent a government housing
inspector here on a surprise visit. I haven't heard back from her regarding
that, and my asthma is once again out-of-control following another
polybutelene plumbing leak. Much as I would like to help Lynn out, I am glad
that people who are better skilled and better able have stepped up and
offered their expertise instead. I do really hope she accepts the offers.

Hopefully cshenk will reply to Lynn's ping, and Lynn will be able to get it
and send her phone number. I did see Teresa post, so alternately Teresa
could give cshenk Lynn's phone number as well.
