Hey all,
I received, via e-mai, a short video clip - .mov file and can't view
it. i get sound. It was shot on an i-phone. Quick time player is up
to date. Do I need a 3rd party component or something to make it work
in a PC environment?
I'd really super, super appreciate any help. Its an important
(sentimental) clip.
Thanks
Happy
I did a little research and found a program called VLC. Do a Google search for it. Be
careful during the installation process though because it will want to install some other
things along with but you can opt out from them. They won't cause harm as far as I know but
if you are like me I don't install things that will for instance change or add things to my
web browser. I hat the ones that want to change my home page.
I did take a video with my iphone and play it back with VLC.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Top. I did download VLC. When I tried to run the clip I got
this:
No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "m2v1". Unfortunately
there is no way for you to fix this.
I did some googling on the problem and seems I am not alone in this,
i.e. only getting audio and not video on .mov files. A couple of
places even spoke of Apple knowing of this back in 2007 yet not
addressing it in Quicktime Pro current release and even refunding
those who purchased that.
Quess Apple wants people to buy Macs...who would've thought that...
Maybe there's a way to convert this kind of file? Do you think so?

Here is a link that apparently has a fix for the problem. I haven't tried this as I don't
ave anything to try it on. I didn't see any complaints from anyone saying that there was any
danger in the method but I would still make sure there are no virus in it.
The reason mine worked was that I was using an iphone app to take the video and it
apparently saves the video in a more standard format.
Again I hope this works for you,
