Within the science fiction literature, there is a story about
an alien culture that wanted to make an "invisibility ray".
Something they could aim at something, and make it disappear.
Well, they were spending a great deal of their currency on the
search, and were getting very little in return.
But then, they discovered they could do it by simply putting a
sign in front of what they wanted to disappear. It said "S.E.P."
Which stands for "Someone Else's Problem". Once something
was seen as someone else's problem, the item so designated
just...disappeared.
What you've said is that you see your husband's problems as
yours, but he doesn't see your problems as his, except to the
extent of disrupting the quiet tranquility of the house. Your
allusion to the Stepford wife shows that you've seen that too.
So you are likely giving him too much credit for knowing what
it was that caused you to have the screaming fits, just that
you had them and that it was a considerable disruption, and
now your new doctor was telling about all kinds of wonderful
medicines that would keep things nice and quiet, with you
being nicely tranquil, less disruptive.
Maybe I am misjudging your husband, and I know that this
doesn't impact any of his diversions, but if you invite him to tell
me how wrong I am, I will certainly read what he has to say.
Neither you, nor he know what your true condition is, and I have
certainly suggested a doctor on the Co-cure list because of your
fibromyalgia.
What I hadn't gotten around to suggesting is more close to home.
They say the couple that doesn't make it in bed....doesn't make it.
Not looking for details here, but even if you are feeling painful in
different places, I still bet you could go for a tongue bath. Put a
different complexion on the world, bring up those endorphins, and
a new appreciation for "dining in".
Ummm, perhaps I need to stop there, give you time to consider
other directions.

If anything this serious should happen to him, I would be spending every.
spare minute I had researching the illness, the possible cures, the
treatments, the side effects... everything I could get my hands on.
However, when I print something out for him to read he scans over it for
about 30 seconds and then sets it aside, to "read later", until I get tired
of seeing it in the same place he set it down and I throw it away. If it
were him with this illness I'd be taking an active part in advocating for
him, fighting for his rights, arguing with the doctors for not giving him
enough pain relief - but all he does at doctor visits is sit in the extra
chair, slumped down half asleep, not even making a show of interest.
