I'm sort of curious as to how it can refute lies when there are really
no "truths" yet. There is not a bill completely written and ready for
a vote & Signature. Until I see a final product ready to go to the
presses anything & everything is possible.
In what universe is that?
Because of the enormous power of the entrenched interests, the only
reforms that have a prayer of passing at this point will result in
additional massive subsidies to insurance companies to cover the
uninsured, plus more subsidies to compensate them for removing
pre-existing conditions, lifetime caps, and limiting the practice of
rescission (examining policies after large claims are made to look for
excuses to retroactively cancel the policy). This is the best we can
realistically hope for right now, but it is better than nothing.
The lies in question about the proposed bills can be proven to be lies
by simply quoting the appropriate sections in the bills. Unfortunately
that information cannot penetrate the brains of the ignorant or put an
end to repetition of the lies.
People who get their news from FOX and right-wing blogs are woefully
misinformed. This is why it's next to impossible to have a substantive
discussion of these matters. People think they know something because
they read an "interpretation" somewhere and so even when they are
presented with the facts they don't believe them.
Those people can be written off as ignorant or uninformed, but the
people who cynically make up these lies and those who participate in the
right-wing echo chamber that extends, amplifies and repeats these lies
endlessly are truly despicable creatures. THEY are the source of
everything that is wrong with American politics today.
The absolute one thing I continue to believe is that this program
regardless of how it shows up in its final configuration is going to
cost me money.
In short, Yes. So far Obama has tried to sell healthcare reform by
claiming that no one will have to make a sacrifice. Everyone sees right
through that and that's why there is so much worry. He needs to hammer
home the following point:
The biggest fear I have, and it's one shared by many millions of
Americans, is that my family is one health crisis away from losing
everything we own and going into hock on top of that. I'll gladly pay
more and give up some of the convenience I have now to be free from this
fear.
