Re: Need Advice - ASAP Please

I think I must have made a mistake if I typed that I was taking 4mg of the
Oxycodone (Roxicodone) - it is 15mg. The Dilaudid was 4mg, and that was
ineffective (which is why the PA switched me to the Oxycodone, but I don't
think he gave me a strong enough dose). 15mg did not help *at all*, so,
since the Dilaudid instructions were "1 to 2 tablets every 6 to 6 hours as
needed not to exceed 6 tablets per day", I took 2 Oxycodone every 4 to 6
hours and didn't take more than 6 per day - for all of three days until the
pain became unbearable and I took 2 extra pills (that was Thursday). Friday
morning is when I called the doctor's office and talked to the nurse who
told me to take 2 15mg Oxycodone every 3 to 4 hours not to exceed 16 tablets
per day.

Now, I did a stupid thing (what's new) when I got the pills at their
"recommended" pharmacy - I didn't count them. I didn't count them until
today when I found out that I only had 130 out of the prescribed 180
tablets! I *KNOW* I haven't taken 50 pills since Monday!!! Friday I don't
remember how many I took - I was just trying to make it through the day with
a workload that is getting more and more ridiculous lately, but it wasn't
24 or 25 pills (if it were I would have been unconscious). After the
incident of the PA taking the pills without telling me, alarms bells are
clanging loudly in my head.

The problem is that I have to work all next week with my co-worker out on
vacation. Between the two of us we take care of 30 people! And this is the
time of year that government forms are required of all companies in regards
to their 410(k) benefits. I don't think I'll be able to do it on the
medication I have left - I'll have a meltdown and be fired.

I think the biggest problem with my meds right now is the Sandoz Fentynal
patches (75mg) - they just don't work on me at all, not even. So I'm trying
to cover by taking the Oxycodone and it's just not working. I *AM* going in
to see the PA on Monday and beg if I have to that he give me another script
for the Fentyanl patches (hopefully 100mg instead of 75mg), and something
else for the breakthrough pain - and I'm going to have them filled at the
pharmacy I've been using for the last 10 years!!! I *KNOW* they're honest
because the second time I got the Fentynal patches filled there they only
gave me two boxes of 5 (that's when the PA told me to change them every 2
days instead of every 3 days and that's an unusual prescription) and I
didn't notice - the pharmacist called me later to say they made a mistake
and told me to come in and get the other box.

Any advice on medication begging techniques would be greatly appreciated -
I'm just sweating bullets thinking about what I'm going to be going through
next week, I don't think I'd fear a week in a torture chamber as much! If I
can get through the next week, and if the facet joint nerve ablation doesn't
work, then I'm going to go to still another pain clinic (and another and
another and another until I can find someone that I trust and who can help
me)!!

Hi (((CN))) (tho I see u r now listed as "CatEyes" tho signed it
"CatNipped". Anyway, what Does matter is that u r in such severe
pain!!! I'm so sorry to hear that honey.
I have a couple of questions for u tho. First off, if the nurse told
u that w/o talkin' w/the doc, hmmm, I just dunno if I'd trust that
unless there was something already written in your chart. Just seems
strange to me.
Secondly, have u taken oral Dilaudid b4? (seems I remember u have).
Honestly, it's a great med IV but terrible orally, very ineffective,
at least for me & a few other folks I know. I know that meds work
diff. on each of us so if it works better for ya, cool! I think your
original oxycodone dosage is just way too low for it to help the kind
of pain you're having & they should raise it up to a workable level.
For instance, 60 to 80mg a day would be more reasonable (imo of
course). Anyway as I said, I think switching to the Dilaudid
(especially if it's gonna be at that same low dose) unless it works
better for you is a mistake! (jmo & experience talkin' here).

Also, I don't think I'd personally want to give them my pills w/o
having new prescription in hand. Besides, You paid for them, they
should be yours to keep! Unless they're wanting to do a pill count (&
I'd make sure I had a witness w/me btw, maybe even a tape recorder).
Hope u feel better asap!!!
Kindly,
LoriBoB

I know OG has said several times that you should not give your medication
away even to a pharmacy or doctor. However, after I've gone a week with
break-through pain keeping me weeping at my desk, I called my doctor a
third
time this week. The doctors were both out but the nurse told me to take 2
4mg Oxycodone HCL every 4 to 6 hours up to 18 pills a day (it was
prescribed
as 1 4mg every 4 to 6 hours up to 6 pills a day). She said to come in on
Monday and that I'll have to bring in all the Oxycodone I have left and
they
would write me a prescription for Dilaudid (she didn't say what dosage).

What should I do if the doctor won't write me a new prescription without
my
giving him my pills? Should I be pushy and ask to see them flushed?
