YOU, doc, are starting to sound like a stalker. If u don't like what
someone else posts, just move on to something more to your taste, imo.
gah! I'm grumpy today so sorry all but I'm callin' it like I see it.
If it goes further from the topic, let's take it to sep. email or
post, k?

You posted this once already.
Yes Tami,
"Your ongoing [posting of this same article is] wearisome."
Oh, the pain... THE PAIN...- Hide quoted text -

Lori,
Are you sure that this isn't just a *little* bit in response to my
last email?
Why do I care and not just "move on"? I've already answered that -
LOOK IT UP. She DID respond like a human being ONCE, so I have held
out some hope of reaching/helping her, but I've been fooled before...
Tami is long past sounding like a kook/spammer; IMO, she IS one.
Essentially, she's a "single-topic poster", like rusty or butthead
putz. She contributes nothing to the group other than shilling for
Siobhan and PRN, and inciting fear in people who come here for comfort
and compassion. She's been invited to seek help for her own pain
issues, offer/suggest help for others, and otherwise participate on
more than one occasion. For the most part, she responds (or DOESN"T)
by dodging/NOT answering questions, making excuses, and continuing on
her myopic crusade which IMO is beginning to reek of panic. Posting
here once, or a few times a year, to draw some attention/gain support
is one thing, but it's gone FAR beyond that (desperation?) and
escalated even FURTHER when faced with a little dissent/resistance.
Like someone who thinks they are losing an argument raising their
voice louder and louder to reinforce themselves, she posts more and
more, which is making her and PRN look a little ridiculous. We all
get the point already; we've told her that, yet she continues.
Doesn't that sound more than a little like a kook?
The old excuse that she hasn't the time to participate is BS. Sincere
people don't find time - they MAKE it. She certainly makes the time
to keep posting what she WANTS to post, *including* her acerbic
responses to legitimate questions, dissent, exceptions... She COULD
be spending that time contributing or seeking/getting help for her own
pain. Unlike other... scratch that... Unlike *legitimate* members of
the group, she is intolerant of views differing from her own.
Ironically, this is VERY "Bush-like" - if you don't agree with/support
virtually EVERYTHING she posts, then you're against her. I've stated
more than once that I supported the work of PRN, yet one of her
repeated implications is that I don't. Well, she may have gotten her
wish.
She is harming herself and PRN's image. She is polarizing this group.
I used to support PRN (in theory) but her behavior here prompted me to
investigate further (I MADE the time to investigate, and I have paid
for it in additional pain) because I couldn't believe what she was
doing/saying here, and what I found concerns/disturbs me deeply. If
others are curious, I invite them to investigate on their own and come
to their own conclusions (advice I am known for here.) As a
spokesperson for her organization, she needs to be able to respond to
tough questions, criticism, dissent (you've had your own first-hand
experience with that), in a professional manner, and IMO, she is not
best suited in that role. IOW, if she can't take the heat...
This group is alt.support.chronic-pain.
It is NOT:
alt.politics.chronic-pain
alt.support.siobhan.reynolds.prn
alt.support.tami.strand
alt.advocate.prn
While advocacy is a legitimate function of SOME support groups, this
is a *peer support* group. Unless it is understood that the group is
specifically designated as following one particular political view/
agenda, or set up by some particular group (oh, wait... PRN HAS their
own message boards to promote/discuss their agendas!) I don't believe
that it is appropriate that *one* such organization should exploit an
established group to proliferate their own (and ONLY their own)
viewpoints. Before anyone argues that point, consider that dissenting
is exactly what I have done, and am now being taken to task for it,
and accused of "stalking", AND IT'S NOT EVEN ON PRN's TURF! (or IS
it?) Hmmm...
It is appropriate for regular contributors/members of this group
(preferably without affiliation) to post articles they feel would be
of interest to the group, and follow-up with discussions about those
articles. It is NOT appropriate for a representative of one
particular political/advocacy organization to continually bombard the
group with THEIR organizations articles and POV and then ignore or get
all indignant when someone attempts to discuss those articles/POVs.
THAT is SPAMMING, not to mention HYPOCRITICALLY INTOLERANT.
If the group really wants to venture down this slippery slope, (and I
don't use that term cavalierly - I have given it careful
consideration) then I would suggest starting a different group for the
purpose of promoting S.R./PRN (it's not that difficult - hell, start a
dozen!) or changing the name of this one to reflect that change in
direction, and let this group get back to helping each other in a non-
threatening environment (rather than the fear-inducing posts of PRN).
My personal prediction would be that readership of such a group would
be very low, else why would PRN impose itself here rather than their
own msg boards? (The excuse of people here appreciating the updates
is, IMO, rhetorical BS as well. If you can click your mice to read
this group, you can certainly click them to read updates on PRN's
site.)
A REALISTIC solution would be for those interested in these topics to
go subscribe to PRN's boards (or just read them) and go crazy (Unless
you cared to dissent, however, in which case you'd need a group like
this one, that TOLERATES dissent/discussion... Oh, wait, no - I'm no
longer allowed to do that HERE either - it's STALKING!), and Tami
limit her proselytizing here to something more reasonable. IMO, PRN
posts 4 times a year is sufficient, though monthly would not be
unreasonable. MANY, MANY groups have a standard of MONTHLY update
posts on certain issues - ALLOWING DISSENTING DISCUSSIONS/QUESTIONS.
As I have said previously, I would WELCOME Tami's PERSONAL
participation; she might even find some helpful suggestions, coping
techniques in dealing with her own pain issues, and may have some
helpful insight for others in similar untreated situations.
And that's callin' it - PARTLY - like I see it.
Oh, the pain... THE PAIN...
