hey sd - first thing to know is that this isn't a conditon that has 'one' certain expression or outcome - the good news/bad news is that this is one of those that expreses in a widely different manner for those who actually have it - so there is as much reason to think that you would be one of those on the lesser end...
the short definition is:
"Arachnoiditis is a broad term denoting inflammation of the meninges and subarachnoid space." - in other words - the lining/membrane around the spinal cord
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/336605-overview
"A variety of etiologies [i.e. - causes] exist, including infectious, inflammatory, and neoplastic processes"
i.e.- an inflamation, bacteria, virus, compression, or injury involving the spinal cord
here is another link that you may find helpful:
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/arachnoiditis/arachnoiditis.htm
note that there in a click thru for clinical trials that may benefit you
next, and i don't have any direct knowledge of them, a couple support groups:

hth - be well

It dawned on me a week or two ago that 3 doctors had confirmed a diagnosis for what I am going through and apparently I mentally blocked it out till I started having these horrid muscle jerks. You all might call them twitching, but these are more.. *MORE* than twitching! My body jerks to where the bed moves, it wakes me up it starts in my legs and goes to my buttock back, shoulders, head arms neck etc. it's annoying and hard for me to sleep because of it..
Anyway I digress.. Apparently from what I'm reading this is like a bad sentence on life or something it's called Arachnoiditis I have no idea of what to expect from this. I just know it's supposed to be pretty scary. Anyone know anything about it? BTW I got approved for the SCS Trial but my psych doc disapproves from a lot of stuff going on at work. pain is starting to get worse every day and these twitching/jerking things are not helping anything.
