For many years I walked 6 miles a day and road cycled 20 miles frequently.
In August 2000 while walking, I experienced a bad pain in my groin that
prevented me from walking for 2 weeks and subsequently reduced my walking to
2 miles at a much slower pace and cycling only occasionally. After 6 weeks
my docter suggested that I get physiotherapy. I had 10 sessions, but no
improvement, eventually I got pain in my ankle (left leg). In March 2001 I
had an MRI elow) and as a result of that, 6 weeks later I had keyhole
surgery on my lower back because of narrowing in L4, L5 S1. I returned to
the neurosurgeon for a post operative visit 6 weeks later, with no
improvement in my condition. I returned to the neurosurgeon 5 months later
with no improvement and now, At that visit I had a hip x-ray just to rule it
out, everything there is fine. A second post op MRI was done, no change.
Here I am still there is no improvement in my condition. I walk
occasionally, 2 miles with resulting increased groin/ankle pain . The
elimination of the pain of course is important to me but more important is
the fear I may never return to my former activities (even at a reduced
level). I have been to all sorts of specialists, but no one seems to have an
answer, groin strain was ruled out, currently I am seeing a surgeon who is
advising a plate to fuse several disks together, but he fels the groin pain
is nothing to do with the back. When I lie down at night the pain goes
away, when I get up & stand, it returns. Crazy as it sounds, when I shower ,
standing up, the pain goes away!!

Any insights would be appreciated, this has just gone on too long with no
answer in sight.

Think twice before getting any spine surgery. Try EVERYTHING else
first and I mean everything. My problem is neck but the fusion they
said would help just made things worse, much worse. Fusions
destabilize the spine just above and below the fused level.

I apologize if this has already been asked but did you have your
testicles checked and also gotten a DRE to help rule out
genito/urinary tract problems? Referred pain is hard to identify.
