Re: Legalize the Weed? CA

I was listening to a local talk radio last night and heard something
that was interesting. Two cleaning business owners were complaining
because they couldn't get people to work for them although they were
payon $9 to $12 an hour. People would show up for work 1 day and be
seen again. Of course the radio host was going on and on about what's
wrong with Americans, don't they want to work, are they that lazy or
so good they won't stoop to cleaning. After a while another lady
called in and set the record straight because she had worked for one
of the 2 business owners. She was expected to drive 50 to 75 miles
every night to get to the job sites. Now who the hell can buy gas and
still take home enough money to feed a family and pay bills doing
that. So much for employers that think they are trying to do people a
favor.
Three days ago there was a job fair in a local town and the newspaper
wrote that 100s were turned away. Police had to be called to get the
people to go home. Now tell me people don't want to work. I'm not
buying because I don't have the money!

There just aren't enough decent jobs to go around and the decline in
decent jobs will continue, unless some major structural changes are made
in the economy.

I believe the govt should make huge investments in improving
manufacturing technology for green technologies. If we can lower the
price of generating green energy (solar cells, etc) and producing green
technology (electric cars, etc) we can reduce our dependence on fossil
fuels, create good-paying manufacturing jobs, and revive our economy
through the export of green products to the rest of the world. If we
build a better mousetrap the world will definitely beat a path to our
door.

We put a man on the moon in less than 10 years once we set our minds to
it. The US can be the world leader in green technology and deployment,
and it would take far less effort and resources than what it took to put
a man on the moon.

Of course we would have to overcome a significant headwind of hot air
coming from the mouths of conservatives who sneer at the mere mention of
government funding "green" technology. They'd prefer that we continue to
rely on fossil fuels; paying ever higher prices as supplies dwindle and
getting into wars of aggression to protect Middle East despots who are
willing to sell us lots of oil -- but only at market prices -- we'll
get no discounts for sending our young people over there to be killed
and maimed.
