I've come up 2 weeks short on my kadian. If anything I should
have some left over. In the past my wife had one 3 occassions
admitted to stealing (my word) my pain medications. Over some
period of time at first before I got her to admit it,
accidently because I was so naive I never thought it might
have been her. At that time I even maybe I was really
forgetting about taking a lot of meds. Anyway this time the
kadian is 2 weeks short and I asked her if she had any idea
what could have happened. She immediatly asked me if I counted
them when I got them from the pharmacy, which I should have
but this time hadn't because this pharmacy has never given me
a problem. Result is I told, without make any acusation, next
time I come up short I'm reporting it to the police. I keep my
meds in a lock box with a keypad combination lock on it but it
does have an emergency key lock in case the battery for the
keypad runs down. I've rehidden those keys. Am I right to
call the cops if this continues? I have 2 sons in the house
but they have never been any problem with my meds even when I
used to leave them out.

I would never report my wife or any member of my immediate family for
stealing drugs from me, but I would make sure it didn't happen again. I
figure it is my responsibility to insure that no one in my family is
able to defeat my security measures.

You trust your sons, but it may well have been one of them. I found out
the hard way that you can't trust anyone when it comes to drugs because
even honest people will steal drugs if the conditions are right.

I recommend you buy a combination only safe similar to this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Sentry-DS0200-Fireproof-Combination-Cubic/dp/B000G9WK5I

It's well worth the expense and available at many hardware and office
supply stores.
