Hey Joe,
Don't dick around just because you're feeling better now. Use this
time, while you can deal with shit, to deal with shit. Hopkins pain
clinic (The Blaustein Pain Clinic, I think.) is on the net. I talked
to them once, a long time ago. Finances were not great at the time.
But they have both inpatient and outpatient programs. In your
situation, Joe, I'd seriously check in to the inpatient program, let
them do the whole 9 yards, get a real diagnosis from them, and let
them keep you as comfortable as possible while they do it. I don't
know what it's like in there, if it's hospital/nursing home nasty
(you know how some places can be) or not, but if they aren't too
terrible, please, man, get a good check up and a treatment plan
worked up. You shouldn't have to spend another 2 weeks wrapped around
a pillow.
Keep in touch, Bro--og
I went through the inpatient program at Hopkins. It is NOT what you think.
The first thing they do is detox you from all narcotics and benzos. Then
they teach you different non-medicinal ways to cope with chronic pain. The
Chronic Pain Treatment Program there is on a psychiatric floor, and the
floor is shared with the geriatric psychiatric population. You get up in
the
morning, and the doctor makes rounds. After breakfast, you go to Physical
Therapy. Then you go to a group led by one of the niurses. Then lunch.
After
lunch, you have Ocupational Therapy, and then a group therapy session led
by
the social worker where you can discuss anything as long as it has to do
with the treatment or management of your chronic pain. After dinner, there
is another group led by the nurses. it is different each night, but
includes
classes on medications, relaxation, etc. They also teach you biofeedback.
They may or may not bring in different doctors to consult about your case.
A
lot of people get really upset when they realize that they are going to be
detoxed off of their meds.
Anyway, just wanted to give you a general idea of what to expect if you
pursue the inpatient program at Hopkins. Good luck. Feel free to ask if
you
have any questions about the program, OK?
Well, GREAT DAY!!! why go through all that just to mesure your sede rate
or pain rate, talk about being treated like a junkie??? excuse please but I
see no reason doing this if your going there because of chronic pain? sounds
like chronic nightmare if you ask me, I'd like to guess they have other
options given a patents conditions and not automatic detox, thanks for all
your input and info, I may look elsewhere now thanks, Geee!!!!...Joe
