Re: Sciatica

each here does what they can - no of us are exactly the same,

but we each have something that can/might help the next

i read that you've got quite the set of experiences so i hope that you
will be able to share you perspective with others who are perhaps newer
and still figuring out how to cope -

like any diverse group, we've occasionally had disputes [it is usenet
after all <g>],

all in all, this is a good bunch of folks

be well

while not a 'large' percentage of us with sciatica [i'm a 'warm'], it is

if you have enough information as to condition of your spine and disks
you should be able to determine from the below information - if not,
it'll give the direction to point to with your doc:

Warm and cold sensory thresholds in patients with unilateral sciatica :
C fibers are more severely affected than A-? fibers

"Objectives - In order to evaluate if nerve root compression or
inflammation is the most important pathogenetic mechanism in lumbar
radicular pain, we investigated unmyelinated C-fiber function (warm
sensation) and myelinated A-delta fiber function (cold sensation) in
patients with unilateral L5 or S1 sciatica. Material and methods "...

"...Cold thresholds were significantly elevated in a subgroup with
operatively confirmed disk herniation. Because myelinated axons are
affected more by compression than unmyelinated ones, our results suggest
that nerve root inflammation is more important than compression per se
in the generation of sciatic pain."

I have suffered with Sciatica in the past - and just yesterday I had a
lot of pain in one side of my backside! This evening I have a very cold
feeling going down one buttock again - can this be sciatica? I remember
a mention of cold feelings being related to it but haven't ever had it
before.
