Dear Alice,

I know it's not easy some days, but I like Alice better. Life with pain
sucks beyond doubt and doctors could do so much more, but it's not the end
of live. Enough of my big nosed insertion.
You're surrounded by people with RSD/CRPS all over the place. I am not one
of them, it's a bit slow this weekend (hopefully that means people are
feeling decent) but I do know a little about the disease. If you have not
been to the RSD hope site, that should be a first stop. Lot's of good and
current info there. The usual RSD treatment is just what you're doing,
massive doses of narcotics. Depending on the stage of the disease, (you'll
see them pretty well defined), they claim it's reversible (don't believe
everything you read, but who knows?) by aggressive treatment with narcotics.
There's also another experiment (waiting for approval by the FDA) where they
use a drug called Ketamine (it's an animal tranquilizer) to put you in a
coma for a significant amount of time (at least days) that sort of "resets"
all the switches that make everything you touch cause you pain. There's more
about it on the site and I'm sure others will have more info than me.
Fentanyl(the Duragesic pain patch, I can tell you about. I didn't like it,
the effectiveness seems to vary from generic brand to generic brand. I found
them difficult to keep on and ever got a bit of a chemical burn from it. It
made to be worn for 3 days, then a new one applied. Always place them where
they suggest (arm, shoulder, trunk) and dose size is going to make a
difference as to the size of the patch. For many people the release of the
drug craps out after 48 hours, so don't be freaked out if this is something
you run in to. Your doc should reset the dose. Avoid heat, heating pads, and
using with a fever Heat and the patch can be a deadly combination.
Check out the RSD web site: www.rsdhope.org and check them out. Best
place on thenet for RSD info. Then drop back by here in a while, you should
have lots of RSD folk stopping in to say hello to you.

Take Care--og

I have RSDS- a chronic pain neurological disorder...i have tried
everything in forms of pain pills---anyone else out there with RSD
that uses the Pain Patch- I think its called "Deregisic"...Fenelyn is
the drug I think thats administered by the path...i think. anyway-
just wondering if any other RSD sufferers out there have used it and
what they think of it...thanks:)

Thats exactly what my next option is if these series of pain blocks
and epidurals dont hold! The coma thing really makes sense in regards
to RSD- because the nervous system is completly all screwy- and the
coma is a type of "rest" button that is used to get the nervous system
back into normal transmission of electrical message sent to and from
the brain. My docs have people in Germany who do this for RSD cases
like mine....but yea thanks for your reply:)
