Received the news late today that my SS Disability has been approved.
That
makes me so happy. They will pay back to 3-5-05. It will make it so much
easier to pay the bills now.
A Happy Top!
As a retired member of the Military could you please explain to me how
you were able to successfully file a SSDI claim. I've been told on
numerous different occasions that it is impossible & will not be
approved so not to even bother.

I was told the same thing. My application went through the first time and
I
didn't do a very good job on it. But I had all my records from the doctor
available to them, going back for years and years. I didn't even have to
dig
them up. I just gave them all the names and approximate dates I'd received
treatment. I also had my then current doctor very much behind me getting
the
benefits. I had to go see an MD for a physical and a psychologist for a
simple mental aptitude going over. Both of them said there wasn't a hope
in
hell of me getting approved. Both were wrong. Don't listen to the nay
sayers. Just go file. Do it on line. You don't need a lawyer unless you
appeal. I called one and he told me to forget it. They won't touch you
unless you're told "no" first. On that I think I lucked out as there are
plenty of lawyers who advertise on TV for SSDI. I got to keep all my money
because I found one honest lawyer. Oh, yeah. You MUST be out of work,
sick,
for a while before you can file. (3M will carry you on sick leave for up
to
two years before you must get approved by SSDI to stay on.)
Go do it!

Timing is everything. During the current watch members of Congress,
looking for pennies to pinch, became apalled at the notion that
veterans could get fat and lazy while double dipping from SS
disability and retirement. You probably know the VA budget is a not a
line item but exists much as Congress' discretionary unwanted
stepchild. We tend to get our hands slapped occasionally lest we
repeat history on the steps of the Capitol, lol; but I remember the
indignant dialogue that circulated legislative halls and the promises
certain people made to make "double dipping" impossible and the fight
veteran's groups mounted to counteract it.
Might be worth pulling things together now so that after the
elections it will already be in the system. Depends on who's at the
helm, but no one should accept no as an answer and if they become
familiar with the process and make sure all codes match SSDI criteria;
critical phrasing is used in the beginning stages, an attorney may not
be really needed.
Good luck to anyone still considering the process,

Dear God! Not another way to screw vets out of any kind of decent benefits
after getting blown apart and or mentally ground into dust fighting another
political war for Chickenhawks who make millions on the War Machine! Yet,
why am I surpised? The ones who do the work always just get dirty for the
ones who collect on the contracts paid for by taxes paid by the ones who do
the work.

If you get a chance, read The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein. It will knock
your socks off.
