Thank you very much for this most informative article!! I was veryTake into to consideration the costs of R&D, bringing a new product to
interested, and it explains a lot about the current situation with the
pharmaceutical companies and how they are changing gears and simply
NOT making the high profits they once were due to their numerous drug
patents being eat into (expiring) much sooner than planed, AND their
fleet of free-sample pill pushing sales people being cut way back. The
times are quickly changing, and this article is proof of that. I feel
bad for the states that have lost the jobs, but I do not feel bad for
the drug companies that have been price gouging Americans for far too
long. I read somewhere that the average salary being made by those
free-sample pill pushers was over $500,00 a year!
Market, and the liability suits that will surely follow from either
misuse of a product or rushing it to market to soon and you'll just
begin to understand the tip of the Iceberg into the costs associated
with the manufacture of drugs.
If we would limit the amount of liability a manufacture was faced
with, especially in the arena of product misuse & required the FDA to
fully evaluate products prior to them being unleashed to a compliant
American public and you might just get some lower costs in the long
run.
Never ever forget that the large majority of American Drug firms,
along with most other US Firms, are owned by stockholders who demand
returns on their investments. That my friend is both you & me even if
we aren't directly involved in Share purchases. It can be through
Mutual Funds, or even Retirement Funds (which hold the large majority
of shares). Reduce Profits on one end, and you reduce them all along
the line.
Any Drug Rep making $500,000 grand a year (if they exist) would surely
be an anomaly. Most drug companies have moved into the direct channel
marketing (TV Ads) and away from the Dr Marketing when they decided to
self-police themselves under the threat of Governmental Oversight.
