Dear Duchey,
You could be having what they call rebound headaches. I don't know all that
much about them, never having experienced one, but I understand they can be
every bit as bad as a migraine. If you read along these posts you'll see all
generics are not made the same, they actually vary a lot.
A couple suggestions- tell your doc. Headaches sure sound like one hell of a
good reason to insist on a particular brand. Here in Maryland the Rx has a
box to check to allow a generic equivalent to be dispensed. If your state
does too, either don't let him check the box or write Brand name only on the
Rx. You also may want to discuss a different medication for BT. You're
already in the Class II medication with Perks, so something like instant
release morphine or oxycodone is a lateral move, not and escalation. They
can't go much higher (in the US). The class I drugs are all the illegal
stuff like heroin and such. So in for a penny in for a pound. The same can
be said for any long acting medications. Don't get scared by a name.
OxyContin and methadone are both incredible for beating down pain.
Don't get discouraged. It can take months, sometime years to get the
balancing act between your pain, the right medication(s), and your doctors
own phobia about prescribing heavy hitting narcotics, evened out. But you
will get there and you will be stable at the same dose (for a while it will
seem like every appointment is a struggle to increase dose or juggle
medication scheduling) for years. Just don't take no for an answer, insert
yourself as the leader of your health care team, and remember the docs, the
nurses, the pharmacists, are all your employees. They answer to you. It's
your quality of life on the line, no theirs, so you can expect their
attention to stray once in a while. Bring them back to the task at hand.
While they may never eliminate all pain, they surely can make it a nuisance
without opening you up and putting a machine inside you.
Keep hanging tough--og

Ok, I was taking brand name percocet for the longest time with no squawks
from my insurance as long as I paid the extra premium. Now, they are
saying they won't cover it unless there are issues with generic. So, I
have been taking the Watson brand generic oxycodone 10/325 for BT pain.
I have noticed that after about half an hour I get these headaches in my
temples. They don't just gradually come on. It's like one second I'm
fine and the next BAM! Level 6-7 headache. I really hate to take the
oxycodone and then have to take tylenol or the like for the headache.
Kinda defeats the purpose.
Anyone else experience headaches when taking percocet? Generic in
particular. I was told by my PM that it is unusual considering that
percocet has tylenol in it. But that I should ask the pharmacy if they
have a different brand of generic(sounds weird saying that).
Thanks
Duchess
