I've heard that generic OxyContin is about to disappear entirely as

If it is, I will be talking to my doctor about converting to MS-Contin
since my insurance is good for generics but horrible for name brand. I
take 80mg OxyContin and it appears that 200mg MS-Contin would be the
closest equivalent. Any comments good or bad (especially which
generics should be avoided) ?
I've heard that Levo Dromoran is a potent pain med, and that it has a
fairly long half life (nothing like methadone though). Is anyone out
there that is familiar with it that can share their thoughts please?
If you could have whatever you wanted for breakthrough pain, what
would you ask for (and why) ? Demerol? Dilaudid? Levo Dromoran?
etc.
Thank you for your support,

I have a relative that is prescribed Oxycontin, and she claims her
pharmacist told her pretty much the same thing. But the rumor had it
that the generics would run out months ago, and I hear thats just not
happened yet. ' not sure if it's true or not. But, the fact is that
she heard this directly from her pharmacist. She was advised that the
name brand maker of oxycontin had bought out the generic
company.....Then others claim that the generics have always been made
from the name brand company (??)- gosh that sounds like one heck of a
monopoly either way there, if it's true! Personally, if that rumor is
true I can't help but feel it's bordering on being ileagle to corner
the market so much. CP patients can benefit from some competition in
the market.
I have been prescribed Oxycontin in my past, and I have been
prescribed extended release morphine for a couple years or more. For
some people morphine pills just do not work as well, it really all
depends on your body. If you were to jump up to 200mg of morphine a
day from 80mg of oxycontin, you might be alright. But if you were
prescribed the same amount of morphine as you now get mg per mg in
oxycodone (80mg) you could likely notice less pain killing abilities
from your morphine. But, I guess you already are aware of this
factor, based on your math. One more thing, for me personally I find
that morphine clouds my thinking more than oxycontin does. But, I have
to be ok with what I'm prescribed because my doctor seems very
unconformable with prescribing oxycodone in any form.
Also I am reminded of the thread here about the cheapest generic ms-
contin not agreeing with some patients here. Some have complained of
the cheapest generic morphine causing them bad side effects, although
I am currently taking the exact same med will no ill effects other
than constipation. One last thing I have noticed is that there are a
lot of doctors that seem uncomfortable with prescribing more than
120mg of morphine a day..... at least my doctor is like that, and I
have heard of others being the same way.
For breakthru-pain, I feel that Dilaudid might be best. But, I'm
simply basing my opinion on how effective this med is on me. It has
been given to me in the hospital in both pill form and through an
I.V., and it has never failed to stop my pain fast. But, like they
say, everyone is different. Of coarse, some might advise methadone,
but many are starting to question how safe it is... even though we
have many members here that take it everyday and seem to do fine on
it, based on their posts here.
Please keep us advised on any news on this subject. It could impact a
lot of people on here.
No Money
The 80mg OxyContin is every 12 hours, so the MS-Contin would also be
every 12 hours. Sounds like some doctors would be uncomfortable
prescribing 400mg a day. I don't know what my doctor would say. I'm
trying to have some idea of what's what before I need to discuss it
with him. He does know that I've been building up a pretty fair
tolerance to narcotics for about 20 years now.
The Watson brand generic OxyContin was made by Purdue Pharma (the name
brand maker) and Watson was licensed to sell it. It seems to have
vanished though. Here's a link:

Others like Teva got sued and lost. So they won't be around much
longer.

grabbing up the crappy Teva which is selling for pennies & marking-up
the hell out of it. As soon as the what must be a mountain of the
Teva is peddled off on us, the Watson Generic will find its way back
into the supply channel. It is my understanding that the wholesale
price between the Watson (which is brand-name same-same) and the Teva
is something $13.00 per thousand. I've been told by three different
pharmacies that all ordering of generics is done unmass by corporate @
the cheapest wholesale price. They said they *can* custom order the
Watson, but I would have to pay the lost profit difference.
