They also fail to take into account that many more people are ON
methadone now, than were before. I have no facts or figures but dare
to guess that the number of pain patients who have been switched
to methadone because of oxyphobia has "skyrocketed" as well.

Let's not forget the new practice of addicts selling their weekend meds
(liquid methadone) to kids for money the addicts can use for heroin or Oxy,
etc. Then the kids die of the addict's way too high dose of methadone. Is
that the fault of methadone being a "dangerous drug"? If the addicts were
taking morphine and selling it, the kids would be just as dead, but the drug
would not be in question.
