Dear Kat,Hi OG
I suggest first don't give in and admit no wrong doing (since you're
innocent, but holding relief over your head, they could make you confess to
the Kennedy assassination.
Find out what kind of test they did. If it was anything other than an MS/GC
(mass spectrograph. gas chromatography) they didn't do a real drug test.
Oxycodone as in Percoset is detectable at high enough levels for at least 72
hours for you to flunk a pre-employment test, the urine sample you provided
should be fine and if you check laws on such the lab is supposed to hold any
dirty samples for retesting. I have a feeling they used a Kmart "drug test
your kid" kit, about as reliable as tarot cards for testing for opiates. I
have a feeling your sample has been flushed which excludes retesting
obviously, but a judge would frown upon such slipshod work.
Of course the docs run their clinic how they want to run their clinic, so
they can drop you cause your skin is too dark or you look middle eastern or
Jewish. Or Far Eastern and Catholic or Protestant. Only a lawyer can tell
you if what they pulled amounts to malpractice. But I've gone 5 days without
oxycontin and still showed dirty for oxycodone, but that after 10 years at a
pretty good jolt (let's say more than 200mgs a day and less than 1000mgs).
Half life only means time of elimination of half the dose. Cut off for
calling it positive is much lower (and check withwww.NORML.orgfor drug
testing links, you'll see the MS/GC is the one they fear the most, being the
most sensitive for all drugs not just THC.
You're in the right here. Cram in up their collective asses and break it
off.
Good luck. Keep us informed--og

The test they did was sent out to the lab, which refuses to give me
any information about the test, what type they did, what the cutoff
values are for their lab, and they refused to give me a copy of the
report. They told me I had to go through the doctor who ordered the
test. I am going to get a copy of the HIPPA laws and talk to a
supervisor on Monday.
The Percocet script is written to be taken twice daily prn and I
get(got) 60 pills a month. I also take methadone 10 mg 3 times daily,
but I still live with a lot of pain.I take the Percocet on a daily
basis, especially in the Spring and Fall. I have a small farm, and I
have chores that need to be done. I try not to complain and usually
have a positive attitude, but this whole thing is a huge pile of BS.
The doctor who prescribes my pain meds is a pain specialist! You would
think he would know about half-lives and drug metabolism. I saw the
doctor in October after the test, actually I saw his PA, and they had
the results at that visit as well. I was given a printout of the
treatment plan and it stated that if I missed a urine test in the
future I would be "weaned" off my meds. I had not missed a test then,
just the messages from the clinic. I guess I'm not allowed to have a
life, I must sit by the phone waiting for their call, or else.
I get the feeling these doctors expect us to be robots and not human.
We have lives, and things happen that we don't expect. I feel like
giving them a copy of my calendar so they can see where I was in
September and what I had to do, but I shouldn't even feel the need to
do that. Grrrrrr!
I am writing a letter to my doctor today and will deliver it tomorrow.
After that, who knows what will happen, but at least my chart will
have my side of things in it.
Wish me luck!

Kat - Please don't think that I am saying I agree with the doctor in
this comment. I am just trying to pint out an issue that *could be*
the root of the problem.
I do know of a few cases where patients were cut off from their
scheduled med because the doc felt they were overusing. This is why I
asked (above) how many you get per month. If a doc gives the patient
60 a month and then indicates 2 a day max, they get upset if the
patient uses the max everyday. Of course the first thing that comes to
my mind is if the patient is using the max everyday then maybe the
dosage allowance should be raised. In this current atmosphere we are
all looked at skeptically and one little thing (like this) can set an
ugly process in motion. Unfortunately, there are docs who will feel
that using the max everyday is abuse.
Of course nobody ever mentioned this to you and the situation was
actually based on not having oxycodone in your system. I guess the
only way to really find out would be to discuss the issue with the
doctor first hand so I hope your letter gets some action.
Good luck!!
