You may have gotten lucky .. since both of these problems have been
found to be related to elevated levels of iron in the body. Therefore
you can say to your doctor .. you know .. doc .. "I have a cousin with
iron overload" .. ?

Iron depletes the body of vitamin D and the oxidation / rust BY the
iron leads to a depletion of the 'anti'-oxidants in the body leaving
the body with an inability to offset or even attempt to offset the
high oxidation.
Both of those problems are treated with iron reduction therapy .. low
iron diet and phlebotomy / bloodletting and iron chelation has been
recently recommended for osteoporosis. Osteorporosis IS .. "bone
pain" ..
A low iron diet is one without .. meat.

It is well established that vitamin D is crucial to bone growth,
mineral
metabolism, and calcium absorption. But in recent years, a vitamin D
deficiency has been linked to a number of other health conditions.
A new study suggests that a vitamin D deficiency may also be a
contributing
factor of unexplained muscle and bone pain.
Researchers at the University of Minnesota Medical School
conducted a study involving 150 children and adults with unexplained
muscle
and bone pain.
The researchers found that 93 per cent of the study subjects had
deficient levels of vitamin D. Of these, 28 per cent were found to be
severely deficient, and five of the subjects had serum vitamin D
levels
below the level of detection.

The researchers concluded that patients with persistent, non-specific
musculoskeletal pain should be routinely screened for a vitamin D
deficiency.

[Itsenko-Cushing disease and lipid peroxidation]

Tishenina RS, Kalinin AP, Kozlova NK.

In patients with Itsenko-Cushing disease a study was made of the
content of
lipid hydroperoxides, malonic dialdehyde, alpha-tocopherol in plasma
and
erythrocytes (in 31 untreated patients, in 41 patients with
recurrences, in 61
patients during clinical remission and in 14 patients after bilateral
adrenalectomy), in tissue biopsy specimens: of the liver (13), muscles
(23),
fatty tissue (30). The above indices were studied for comparison in
the blood
of 36 healthy persons and in tissue specimens of patients with biliary
system
pathology, pheochromocytomas and corticosteromas. In Itsenko-Cushing
disease an
elevated level of lipid peroxidation products in plasma, erythrocytes,
liver,
muscular tissue, and a decrease in the level of alpha-tocopherol in
erythrocytes against a background of its elevation in plasma were
detected. The
level of alpha-tocopherol in tissue biopsy specimens was found to be
season-dependent. The data obtained permitted attributing Itsenko-
Cushing
disease to a group of diseases characterized by the intensification of
lipid
peroxidation.

Age-associated Iron Accumulation in Bone: Implications for
Postmenopausal Osteoporosis and a New Target for Prevention and
Treatment by Chelation.
Liu G, Men P, Kenner GH, Miller SC
Biometals. 2006 May 11;

Iron accumulation in tissues is believed to be a characteristic of
aged
humans and a risk factor for some chronic diseases. However, it is
not
known whether age-associated iron accumulation is part of the
pathogenesis of postmenopausal osteoporosis that affects
approximately
one out three women worldwide. Here, we confirmed that this
accumulation of iron was associated with osteopenia in ovariectomized
(OVX) rats (a model of peri- and postmenopausal osteoporosis due to
estrogen deficiency). To further investigate whether the increased
iron
level plays a causal role in the onset of bone loss, we treated OVX
rats with an orally active and bone targeted chelator that prevented
iron accumulation in their skeletal tissues. The results showed that
this treatment mitigated the loss of bone mass and the deterioration
of
bone micro-architecture. We also found that one possible mechanism of
the protective action of iron chelation was to significantly reduce
bone resorption. Thus, these findings provide a novel target and a
potentially useful therapeutic strategy for the prevention and
treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and perhaps other age-
related
diseases.
