My Pain Mgmt Appt last Friday

My doctor called - with only one day's notice - to change my
appointment. None could get me there any other time but my scheduled
time so he had me see one of his NP's. I reported less pain post ESI
and told him I was very happy with the results. He asked me if I
needed more MSIR since my pain levels were so much lower. I told him
that while I was experiencing fewer less intense periods I was not
prepared to giver up my MSIR. He finally got it that it was for
breakthrough pain and said he would give it to me because my regular
doctor said it was ok. He said it like this: If Dr. ______ says you
can have it then you can have it. I told him I hoped it would last for
more like 3 months instead of two.
He actually asked me if I wanted to phase out my IR and ER I think
since I was experiencing so much less pain. Mind you I am on 30mg TID,
not a huge dose. I told him I wanted to see how long I remained pain
controlled and told him it was the first time in two years I felt this
good. Then he noticed I was a Hills Phys. patient and said Oh, your
Hills. We just turned down a new patient because he was Hills. He said
that Hills would not give authorization for more than one or two
appts. at a time, even for people like me who need monthly refills.
That is when I told him that I had trouble getting ESI approval. I
also asked him for advance warning if they were thinking of dropping
me.
He was an odd man. Reminded me a little of the Silver Cathedral
preacher. He then paused and dictated his appt. notes. I thought he
was making a call.... I got my refills though and at the same dose
levels.
Mike
