Re: Pain Dr appt

One of the most important, if not THE most important issue, is having a surgeon who has successfully performed this surgery many many times. Experience is VERY important. For my implantation surgery, they took a long time to make sure the leads were giving me adequate coverage. I now know that I was getting coverage but only at the periphery of the 'stimulated area'. What I mean is that the main stim is at my knee or calf or thigh and if I get the settings right, then the edge of the stimulation reaches my foot. This is hard to describe accurately. Anyway, I now know this from playing around with the programs and settings so many hours. When I go in for the surgery this time I will be way more careful with where I feel the center, main point, of the stimulation.

Did you do the trial first? I did and it worked really well.

Finally called my Pain Dr and saw him and the Medtronic guy about my feet this morning. The lead is too high, anatomically, so I am not getting good coverage for my feet. Pretty soon I will go in, have my lead moved for better left side coverage and get another lead so I can get good coverage on my right foot too. Now it's mostly just my left foot that feels the stim at all. I feel pretty positive that this will help. The trial stim and the beginning of this one were so good.

Cross your fingers!!

That's great Deb. You're the first person I know where the spine stem has worked so well. Let's just hope it lasts forever. I tried the stem and I also had the Rep there but no go for me. They tried three times to place the leads in and turned them up to ten and I felt nothing. The doctor finally removed everything and said I couldn't have it.
