I did the same thing...I do that with all my new meds just in case.
Actually, the Methadone left me far less drowsy and such than most of
the antiseizure meds and antidepressants did.

We all react differently to different drugs based on age, weight,
metabolism, disease processes, environment, stressors, other drugs we
take, and a million other things. All we can really do is try it for
ourselves and see how it goes.

After reading all this testimony, I feel I should have included on thing in
my post. While I believe in methadone and use it daily, I find it necessary
to take Provigil each day in order to function at acceptable levels of
cognitive performance. I've also dozed off on the John and everywhere else,
except the car. That has never happened to me. I will admit that methadone
is a very sleepy drug, but not so much that it's interfered with my life.
Unlike many, I've take as much as five times a normal dosage at one time and
have not noticed any big difference in how it has effected me. I would never
drive on that any more than I would drive after having a drink. My alertness
is not up to me. I must always rely on what I have taken before I drive, if
I drive. As it is, I drive only once every one or two weeks. I've been
fortunate enough to have someone who will escort me where ever I need to go.
I'm adamant about driving drunk or stoned. I got a DUI back in the early
1970's and it did the trick. I may still drink, but I won't drive after. I
hope all of us chronics are the same when it comes to deciding if we can
drive under the influence of our meds. It's a hard question to answer
honestly.
