Ha Ha... I for the last few months have been fighting a
real
battle with my PM Dr my insurance co and who knows what's
next. I was feeling ok for about 5 months then my
tolerance
must have jumped up (I was also involved in a minor car
accident, enough to deploy the bag but just barely.) I
asked
for a med increase 2 months after the crash to make sure
I
was not feeling after effects from the crash. The Dr sent
me
for an MRI which showed increased damage to the old
problems
in my back, some new disc bulging in new areas and an
increase in the amount of my scoliosis. 3 months after
the
request for an increase I get a stories about needing a
second opinion for my current treatment. I explained that
the dr they referred me to was not on my plan. 4 months
after the request the dr finely gave me a 1 pill increase
which my ins co declines. In fact they declined to
approve
my current dosage too and only approve a decrease to the
amount I was taking over 1 year ago. A dr that I never
have
seen, recently joined practice, now say he wants me to
see
an addiction counselor. My dr has not recommended any new
treatments or drug changes. Over the last year his PAs,
(Who
regularly quit and I see someone new) suggested to try
all
of the same treatments (epidurals, R/F and so on) that
I've
never benefited from before. When I questioned what the
second opinion was for the pa said "so we can see if they
agree with the treatment plan or can they recommend
something new." "Well why can't you guys recommend
something
new," No answer. I also was told to see a neurologist and
an
orthopedic. Well I live on a fixed SSD income. I can't
afforded all these co-pays, So I told the PA I would make
an
appointment with a neurologist because I've never seen
one.
I don't trust orthopedics (all they want to do is cut and
tell you they have an 89% success rate.) To get a second
opinion from the pain dr you recommend just get a thumbs
up
on my current treatment plan is not the best for my
limited
budget. I never take one more pill than prescribed, I
never
have lost a prescription, I never have called and asked
for
meds before the end of the month, I've never failed a
piss
test, in 3 years with this Dr I've been late once and
only
missed one appointment, I've never gone to an other dr to
ask for meds, I never asked for med when I had dental
work
and when the dentist gave pain meds he was aware of all
my
pain meds and I told my mp dr what the dentist gave me. I
wave gone under medicated for I bet 50% of the time I've
been seeing this Dr, He never makes a move quickly. Now
I'm
accused of being a drug addict. I've gone through a 160mg
reduction in my meds from one visit to the next with no
withdrawal and a major increase in pain. The more I ask
questions and the more I show I know what's up the more
hostile they get to me. I have gotten no help with the
insurance company from them and now I have been marked a
junkie. What the f ck is UP? While I do take a high dose
of
methadone and oxi-fast for brakethrough pain I still
hurt.
What dose a Body do?
Best of luck to all,

Aloha Willy!
Nice to see you're still alive and kickin'! I remember you
from when
OG's Mom passed away...that was a very sad time and still
is if I
think about it for too long. It's hard to believe (in some
ways) that
FOUR months have passed by since then...then again, it
seems LONGER!!
Since I've been unable to work, TIME is NOT my strong suit
right now
and I'm so back-ass-ward as far as a schedule goes. I
can't say I like
this sort of lifestyle...<sigh>
I'll bet you are feeling a bit left out in the cold since
no one
really has any suggestions for you and your
predicament...yeah? What
happened between you and your pain management doctor to
make him throw
up such a barrier with you all of a sudden? Your timing is
kind of
perfect as I have been contemplating asking my pain doc
for an
increase in my dosage since I haven't had one for YEARS,
however,
after thinking about it, I've decided NOT to and just keep
a better
schedule with taking what I take now and stop getting some
of my
"once- a-month" meds either a week later or even a MONTH
late!
That's how bad I am with remembering appointments and
scheduled
injections and stuff. I'm SO scatterbrained now. I don't
enjoy much
in life because of just THAT aspect. <heavier sigh>
Willy, the only thing I can suggest is confronting your
pain
management doc with the "facts" you have told us here in
this post. If
you've been as wonderful a pain patient as you say you
have, I don't
understand what the problem should be with your doctor.
I've had to
deal with MY insurance company not covering certain meds
of mine in
the past but luckily, except for the Provigil, the docs
and I have
managed to find suitable replacements without having to go
to generics
(Generics of almost every pain med just doesn't seem to
"cover" my
pain as well as the brands. I know, I know. They're
supposed to be the
same except for the filler, however, I suspect that some
fillers
interact with the active ingredients in a way that make
the brands
work better...I don't know...call me crazy-LOL!)
Seriously, I'd be so proactive in getting to the bottom of
who or what
is smearing my good name and reputation that would make a
health
professional want to send me to "addiction counseling"!
I'd be very
adamant about this and then "talking" to this person to
clear up any
"gray areas", if you know what I mean.
Something, somewhere, must have triggered the doctors to
react the way
they are reacting. I don't mean to be contradictory,
however, I've
been rather spoiled when it's come to having my pain
managed properly
and don't have anyone else to blame but myself if my pain
goes up
because that means I messed up on the dosing in one way or
another. If
I take my meds exactly as prescribed, they DO keep my pain
level
consistently down around level SIX most of the day. It
always jumps a
level at night and of course the mornings are nines or
near-
nines....no doubt about that.
Anyway, think about it and let us know if you can come up
with even
the slightest thing that may have "set-off" your doctor(s)
the way
they seem to be heading, OK? I sure wish I could send you
more solid
advice.
Aloha Just For Now,

HW,
The only thing I can think of is that telling the PA I
needed an increase. I have never asked for an increase
unless I really needed one. I have always told the person
handling my case exactly how I feel. I have never pushed for
an increase with out giving at least 2 months for the pain
to lessen before even asking an increase. I believe the PA
who is now handling my case has a problem with my treatment
plan. Then the practice changed names and the one DR that I
really felt understood my case left and a new DR I've never
seen has made some assumptions about me with out even
talking to me. from day one I informed the dr that I don't
like taking meds. The Dr I regularly see when I need to see
the Dr instead of a PA (when I need an increase) was the
cause of me wanting to find a new PM practice 2 years ago
lets call him A. He insisted that I go to his partner (lets
call him B) for a radio frequency treatment. I've done that
before and got no results. When I told B that I wasn't
interested in going through that again, he said that their
was no reason not to just continue with meds. I had lots of
room for increases and that there where other med options if
I ever ran out of room for increases. Dr A after talking to
dr B was cool with his assessment of my case and he also
agreed that I had plenty of room for increases. Well B is no
longer with the practice so I guess I'm f cked. Where did
all of this room go? I've had only 2 increases in 3 years!
So all I can think of is that I'm still in pain,
Thanks for your input,
