Re: Pregabalin for lower back pain

it is also commonly tried for neuropathic pain associated with diabetic
peripheral neuropathy - since yo state that you had gained weight, your
doc may have ben assoc. the weight and pain as such?

if you were diag as fibro then it is used

management of fibromyalgia

The recommended dose of pregabalin for fibromyalgia is 300 to 450
mg/day. Dosing should begin at 75 mg two times a day (150 mg/day) and
may be increased to 150 mg two times a day (300 mg/day) within 1 week
based on efficacy and tolerability. Patients who do not experience
sufficient benefit with 300 mg/day may be further increased to 225 mg
two times a day (450 mg/day). Although pregabalin was also studied at
600 mg/day, there is no evidence that this dose confers additional
benefit and this dose was less well tolerated. In view of the
dose-dependent adverse reactions, treatment with doses above 450 mg/day
is not recommended [see ADVERSE REACTIONS]. Because pregabalin is
eliminated primarily by renal excretion, the dose should be adjusted for
patients with reduced renal function (creatinine clearance less than 60
mL/min - see Patients with Renal Impairment) [see DOSAGE AND
ADMINISTRATION].

in any case, pregabalin is 'not' a on again/off again type of med -

one of the first pieces of info in the patient handout is that it is
excreted in urine fairly quickly, but that the body gets 'tuned' to it
being present so

"When discontinuing pregabalin, taper gradually over a minimum of 1
week."

bottom line is you really need to talk this over with your doc - be a
partner in the treatment protocol

adjusting meds on your own can cause serious side effects and other
problems to kick in so be proactive and consult with the one that 'brung
you to the dance' - your doc.

My doctor prescribed Pregabalin (a seisure medicine apparently) to
treat my chronic back pain due to weight gain. However I have dropped
the weight I have gained and the back does feel much better - should I
keep taking it twice a day as inititally prescribed or should I only
take it when the pain flares up?
