I would like to get some advice. I have been suffering with chronic
back pain for about 7 years now. It seemed to arise overnight.. I
have been told that I have degenerative discs, some arthritis in
spine, and multiple bulging discs, a couple herniated. I am so
frustrated with the docs. I have had many injections, a discogram
done by a ruthless torturer, who then told me to see a shrink because
a wrote him a letter telling him I was not happy with his treatment of
me. I am now seeing pain management that seems better, but now the
doc is prescribing Topomax, but doesnt tell me of any side effects
other than drowsiness, but when I searced it on web, wow. Has anyone
taken this med? does it help? Also any support would be appreciated.

You don't say if you've had an MRI or not. But I think you best bet would to
go and see a orthopedic surgeon and have them work up your problems. They
will at least give you what you need to kill the pain and if they don't then
there might not be a big enough problem with your spine and the problem
could be elsewhere. I know some on this group have had problems with doctors
but in my experience every time I went to an ortho pod they always took care
of me. Anyway the point being is to have your problem identify. A discogram
WILL show almost all herniations but they are a few they can't see so maybe
more tests are needed. I had an MRI that showed my blown disc right away.
But the surgeon wanted more so he did more testing. They wanted to make sure
they had the complete picture before they cut into me. But just remember you
have the final say whether they cut or not so that's why I say go to them.
